This is the process I undertook to create my second movie poster for 'Vivid'.
I took this image of my young actor. The tag line of the film is "dreams are shadows", therefore I thought this image was appropriate to use even though you cannot see the actor physically. Also by taking a photo of a shadow it links to the mystery/uncertainty within the genre. |
I took this image of the protagonist while we were in the location of the old abandoned house. I knew I wanted a shot of the main character looking straight into the camera. By using this image in my poster this will lure in audience's as he will be looking directly into the consumers eyes. I edited this image with a Sepia effect to make the image more suitable to the shadow image i took of the young actor. It was important that the lighting and focus were similar within both images, as I wanted to make sure my poster flowed with continuity and matched visually. |
In the beginning I simply increased the contrast and darkened the image, so that the shadow would stand out from the sepia background. |
I then placed the shadow image on an A4 black canvas. The image was very stark with the black background. Therefore, I began to use the Smudge tool to blend the two together. This distorted feel worked in relation to my genre too. |
I then began adding in the text for the poster. The typeface for this movie poster is called 'Octin Spraypaint' - it is the same I have used for my teaser trailer. I wanted my text to be the same to keep the continuity of all my pieces to be flawless. |
I then added the image of the protagonist at the top half of the movie poster. I have seem this done many times and it is a typical code and convention of psychological thriller posters. |
Again, I continued to add in text. Here I added another layer and put the slogan of the film in large writing across the split between the two images. I think by making this text large and in a light colour, this allows the slogan to stand out. This will hopefully be recognizable to my target audience and they will hopefully be able to link all the products together. |
