Movie Magazine Flat Plan

I have placed the masthead along the top of the magazine as when placed on a shelf among various other magazines, it will be most visible and so will lure my target audience to my magazine. The masthead will be the largest font of the magazine which will make it easily read and memorable therefore encouraging others to buy my magazine.

On this flat plan I have utilised a skyline feature above the masthead as again this will be most visible when placed on a shelf. A skyline will grab the viewer’s attention and encourage them to buy the magazine. I plan for my main image to take up most of the centre of my front cover. This will direct the reader’s eye to the main image and will connote immediately what movie will be the main article inside my magazine. This will encourage fans of the movie to buy this magazine. Below the main image are the main blurb in explaining what the reader is to expect from this article. Placing these above the main image will highlight that the main headline corresponds with the main image. To connote the importance of the main headline I will write it in a large, bold font signifying the importance the article will have on the issue. Beside the main headline I will include ‘Exclusive’ which signifies that this main article is an exclusive highlighting that it can only be found in this issue. This will attract the fans of this movie and encourage them to buy the magazine. I have placed a puff along the right third of the magazine. This puff will highlight some of the features inside the magazine such as "10 Best Movies of 2015".
I plan to place cover lines along the left third of my magazine as they will be visible when placed on a shelf. The cover lines will highlight to the readers the various features that are also included in the magazine. Below these cover lines I will place a short blurb or lure, a convention used by both Total Film and Empire Magazines which highlight immediately the tone and atmosphere of the article.
I also included a bottom feature title which will list the various other movies and articles which will be featured in this issue, encouraging fans of these movies to buy the magazine.
A barcode, issue number, date and cost are also regular conventions used by most magazines which I have utilised in mine. I believe these conventions are very important. The issue number connotes the success of the magazine through the number of issues. The date highlights the date of publish and the cost indicates to the reader the cost of my magazine each month.
